Visit Egypt with the Editors of Sat 16th to Sat 23rd September 2006 Magazine trip to Cairo, September 2006.The trip is being specially organised for the magazine by Ancient World Tours (AWT). As the trip is being tailor made for AE readers, it does not feature in their brochure. Flights to Egypt will be from London Heathrow. Hotels will provide room and breakfast. A WEEK IN CAIRO, with the Editors of ANCIENT EGYPT Sat 16th to Sat 23rd September 2006 Ancient Egypt, in conjunction with Ancient World Tours is arranging a special week in Cairo in September 2006. There will be the opportunity to visit many of the popular sites at leisure (with some special extras) accompanied by AE’s Editor and assistant Editor, Bob Partridge and Peter Phillips. Our guide in Egypt will be AE’s Egypt Correspondent, Egyptian Egyptologist, Ayman Wahby Taher. There will be some early evening lectures by Bob, Peter and Ayman during the week. The Itinerary. Sat: Travel to Cairo from the UK, staying at the Meridian Pyramids hotel at Giza, not far from the Pyramids. (Hotel will provide B&B for the week).Sun: The last ancient Wonder of the World A visit to the Pyramids at Giza, where there will be time to visit the boat museum and a special visit to the tomb of Queen Meresankh and a real treat, a chance to see the Sphinx up-close, by entering the sphinx enclosure, normally closed to tourists Mon: The Greatest Treasurehouse A morning visit to the great treasure house of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. The afternoon will be free. Tues: The Oldest Pyramid A full day visit to Saqqara to visit the pyramids of Djoser and Teti and some of the splendid tomb Old Kingdom tombs there. We will have special permission to visit the new Kingdom Tomb of Horemheb. Wed: Islamic and Coptic Cairo A visit to the Citadel, to view the Mohamed Ali mosque but also other older and more interesting mosques in the complex. Travel on to visit the Sultan Hassan and Rifai Mosques. In the afternoon visit the hanging Church and other sites in the heart of Coptic Christian Cairo. Thurs: More Pyramids and Tombs More pyramids when we visit the pyramids of Middle Kingdom Pyramid of Amenemhat III at Hawara and the Old Kingdom Pyramids at Meidum and Dahshur. At Meidum there will be the chance to see some of the mastaba tombs at the site. Fri: Even more Pyramids Still more pyramids at Abusir. The afternoon will be free for final sightseeing and shopping.
